The Ultimate Machu Picchu Packing List

Ultimate Machu Picchu Packing List

Peru attracts thousands of visitors every year and for good reason. There are so many places to explore, such as Machu Picchu.

However, creating a hiking packing list for this exotic destination can be tricky. There are many things to consider, like Machu Picchu weather.

But don’t worry! Here is a Machu Picchu packing list to help hikers be prepared and have an awesome trip in Andes Mountains Peru:

1. Healthy Snacks

Energized explorers need to eat energy filled snacks, not junk food, which would make them tired. Leave behind the salty bags of chips and instead opt for healthier options, such as protein bars and trail mix.

Fruits such as oranges, clementines, apples, bananas, and grapefruit are some more great alternatives and are naturally pre-packaged.

2. First Aid Kit

An emergency first aid kit is definitely an important item to add to a hiking packing list because being a well-prepared hiker is never a bad idea.

Here are several first-aid items to add to the hiking gear list:

  • Ointment
  • Alcohol wipes
  • Bandaids
  • Gauze
  • Anti-itching cream

Speaking of first aid, prevent bug bites by putting on quality bug spray. And wear long pants to guard against poison ivy.

3. Warm Hiking Clothes

Machu Picchu weather can shift to the chilly side on some days. This means a happy hiker needs to make sure they pack warm.

A windbreaker jacket, coat, ski mask, and hat are all great options.

As for the material, wool is a great choice because it keeps its wearer warm even if the fabric gets wet, be it caused by rain or sweat.

The wardrobe also needs to be wearable in the chance when you get warm from walking. Make sure to wear items that can be easily layered to maximize your comfort regardless of the Machu Picchu weather.

Also, pack light. Keep the essentials, but avoid unnecessary items that will take up valuable space and weight.

4. Miscellaneous Essentials

Some items are miscellaneous but are still super awesome to add to the hiking gear list.

  • A space blanket, for example, is warm, insulating, and waterproof and can serve a variety of purposes. Best of all, it’s thin and easily foldable, taking up little space and weight.
  • Freeze dried food is also a tasty option for a quick meal (or tasty snack if you go for freeze-dried ice cream).
  • A little flashlight with fresh batteries can be a great supplement to go with a phone light and is much more space saving than a lantern.
  • And an inexpensive rain poncho can suddenly feel much more valuable when you’re caught up in a downpour.
